First University of Gloucestershire inspired Growth Hub opens in Indonesia

This week, the consortium is proudly celebrating its first major milestone. Just one year after the official start of the project and considerably before schedule, the first Growth Hub is opening at Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) in Yogyakarta. Amongst the attendees are the Mayor of Yogyakarta, representatives of the Muhammadiyah Foundation Central Board and Disaster Management Centre, as well as various businesses.

UAD is one of the leading private universities in Indonesia and has been rated as one of the top 50 promising universities by the Indonesian Higher Education Directory. Since its establishment in 1960, the University has sustained a strong tradition of academic integrity and gained an excellent reputation for its educational programmes, research and community services.

Together with Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII), also located in Yogyakarta, UAD hosted the last project meeting in July, which gave the consortium the opportunity to visit the Growth Hub premises as they were being constructed. During the meeting, the seven partner universities located across Java shared their individual plans for the development of their local Growth Hubs and discussed strategies for engaging with businesses.

UII has since changed its management structure to formally incorporate the Growth Hub as an entity within the organisation and appointed a Director, which reflects the endeavour amongst the seven partner universities to increasingly embed the triangular approach into their institutional structures.

The opening of the first Growth Hub before schedule reflects the overwhelming commitment that partners within the consortium have to realising the intended outputs of the project and to mobilising necessary resources. As students and local businesses begin to use the premises and services of the UAD Growth Hub, the coming months will provide valuable insights into the day-to-day practicalities of its operation.
